First Post Back
It's been a while since I've had a personal blog. I took down my previous site as I hadn't updated it in a few years, it had grown stale, and I didn't have time to maintain it.
It is now 2026, and things are a bit different now. The world is somehow more chaotic, and the internet is flooded with generated content. I've grown nostalgic for a bygone era of the web, yet am trying to grow more as a person and as a web developer.
This site serves two purposes. The first is simple: I want a central hub to show off projects. I've become more interested in personal development projects and have found time to build them. I'm in the middle of a small one now, but I opted to get this set up before finishing it. This site isn't much right now; I quickly tossed together a Grav install, downloaded a theme, and typed this up. I plan to build a real theme and populate real content soon.
The second is, well, I want a personal internet oasis. The internet is huge, complicated, and messy. There is an onslaught of AI-generated content and code. Every single site is jammed full of tracking code that feeds your data to a third party. And of course, there's an uncomfortable amount of misinformation and disinformation online. Much as I love aspects of the internet (I mean, that's why I do what I do), it's hard not to feel overwhelmed.
I want to build a site that is clean, fast, accessible, and informative. There is very minimal tracking on this site (no Google Analytics, just locally stored page stats). I will not use generative AI for this site's content (not even the images; speaking of, this post's image is from Unsplash), nor will I use it to extensively write this site's code. (Though I do admit that the code completion features are nice, and will keep my usage confined to that.)
More importantly, I want to share what I learn. Between personal projects and switching Linux distros on my personal machine, the potential is there for a lot of information. Documenting pitfalls and wins is valuable. For Linux specifically, I aim to document how I resolve issues with gaming. Valve's Proton eliminates most of the possible headaches, but there are still some fringe cases that are worth recording.
I believe this will be a worthwhile endeavor, if for no other reason than to hone my skills.
